The son of a Watford woman who died aged 99 has praised the care home that looked after his mother for the last years of her life.

Anne Roberts, nee Young, a former dancer, lived at Fairhaven Care Home, in Park Avenue, for her last seven years and son John says she "loved it there".

Anne, who was born during the First World War, enjoyed a brief career in show business before meeting her late husband soldier John Roberts.

They had one son, John, who was born shortly before the Second World War.

Anne, who was known to be stubborn, feisty, a strong Catholic and a family person, moved to Watford about ten years after her husband passed away.

She lived for more than a decade in a bungalow in Cassiobury before moving into residential care.

John said: "She was there for about seven years. My mother was very happy in there. She was always dressed nice in her chair when I visited.

"At Christmas the children would play the piano and musical instruments, she loved it.

"They were very compassionate. The carers were very good, they really looked after her and held her hand and sat with her."

Anne Roberts’ funeral will take place on Monday, December 22, at Garston Crematorium.
