Watford Borough Council is offering residents loft and cavity wall insulation grants of up to £500.

Insulating a detached house could potentially save £500 every year on heating bills, according to The Energy Savings Trust.

The cost to insulate both could normally cost as much as £775 but with the offer this work could be totally free.

Elected Mayor of Watford Dorothy Thornhill said: "I’m really pleased that once again we are offering Watford’s residents the chance to have their homes insulated. At this cold time of year it will really help people stay warm and save money on their heating bills."

The funding will be available until March 31, unless the allocated budget runs out before then.

Each household, regardless of their income, can apply for the council subsidy in addition to the existing subsidies already available. In the vast majority of cases this means that the insulation will be free.
