Thousands of eager shoppers flocked to the intu shopping centre to splurge at the annual Boxing Day sales.

While most shops began their sales on Boxing Day, stores such as John Lewis opened their doors to sale shoppers on Saturday, December 27, making the sales a two-day long event.

According to Howard Olstein, General Manager at intu Watford, around 100,000 shoppers visited the centre for the Boxing Day sales.

He said: "Everyone had a really good time over the sale period. Shops and retailers I've spoken to are confident that conversions and purchases were greater than last year and you could tell my the number of bags being carried around.

"Compared to last year's figures, sales have been very successful, and the success in sales has continued past Boxing Day and the weekend."

Jonathan Field, head of branch at John Lewis Watford, said: "We opened our doors at 8am on Saturday 27 to launch Clearance and so far we've had a very good couple of days. Popular clearance items include bed and bath linens, and customers are also enjoying the deals to be had in Men's and Women's Fashions. As usual, our Electronic and Home Technology departments are very busy and televisions in particular are flying off the shelves. It shows that customers continue to enjoy picking up a great Clearance deal."
