The Thompson family from Bushey have raised more than £7,000 for Peace Hospice Care.

Family and friends arranged a second annual charity golf day in memory of Maura Thompson, who passed away to cancer in 2012, but had experienced expert and dignified care at the Watford Peace Hospice.

The event was supported by companies based in the region and the charity auction - where a signed Watford FC football raised £250 - followed by a retro disco at the Victoria Public House rounded off the day and fundraising.

John Thompson, Maura’s eldest son, said: "This year’s event was a great success. We had a lot of help and fun pulling the day together and to raise over £7,000 for such a good cause that serves the community is amazing."

Fundraiser, John Crowley, added: "We must also thank all of the businesses for their generous donations including Pnt Contractors, Garvin Construction, ECS Group, LPC Construction and a special mention for Croxley Scaffolding’s ongoing support.

"Roll on next year as we’re looking to hold a charity football day at Vicarage Road in May too."

Overall, the Maura Thompson Memorial Cup has now donated nearly £12,000 to the Peace Hospice, and Allison Tromans-Nunes, fundraising manager at the Peace Hospice, was delighted with the donation to help reach their annual £4m self-funded target.
