A well respected 72-year-old father of two who recently passed away will be "greatly missed".

Peter Henney, the former chairman of the Bushey Rangers FC, died on Friday, January 9.

Mr Henney, of Cotswold Avenue, Bushey, who had been suffering from lung cancer, lost his wife, Elizabeth, just before Christmas. They had been married for 53 years and despite being ill himself, he had looked after her in her final days.

He got involved in the football club in 1968, when he started watching his sons, young Peter and Robert, play the football and judo at the club, based at the Moatfield Recreation ground in Bushey.

It wasn't long before Mr Henney became a member of the club and got more involved in the activities and started helping out.

According to friends and colleagues, Mr Henney used to enjoy socialising in the evenings at the club and playing darts. He also often entertained everyone, including club members with his singing, and his friends described his voice as nice.

Mr Henney soon joined the club committee and in 2008 he became the chairman.

His colleagues said he was always very helpful and got involved in many of the club activities, especially the junior five-a-side football league.

After retiring, he was often seen walking his dog, Poppy, on the Moatfield grounds. Both his family and friends have said that Mr Henney was a well respected man who will be greatly missed.
