Homeward Bound, a short digital animated film, will be screened on to the buildings of Watford Parade this weekend

Writer Sarah Woolner was recognised by the British Academy of Film and Television Awards in 2014 for her work on the short film Sleeping with the Fishes.

She was commissioned last year to write Homeward Bound – which will be projected onto the outside of Jackson Jewellers on Saturday and Sunday.

The town centre screenings – lasting for about 10 minutes – will be at 5.30pm, 6.30pm and 7.30pm.

The animation is being shown as part of Watford Borough Council’s year-long Big Events programme, launched to celebrate the renovation of The Parade last year.

The film has been made by Watford-based film-makers Kim Noce and Shaun Clark of animation company Mew Lab. In the early stages of the project they worked closely with Sarah Woolner, who visited Watford to gain inspiration for the project.

Sarah said: "I do a lot of commuting and spend a lot of time on trains. I was kind of thinking ‘it’s going to be a commuter audience who will see it coming back from work.’ "I was thinking about when I am sitting on a train looking round at all the gloomy faces and how everyone’s into their mobile phones and no one really converses.

"People rarely exchange eye contact and that’s where this idea came from."

Homeward Bound is about a serious woman who lightens up during a train journey when her mind jumps out of her head and goes off to explore the countryside.

The exciting and family-friendly animation has been about five months in the making.
