A kitten who nearly drowned in an oil container in Watford is now “very happy” according to its new owner.

Holly Cant, of Northwood, adopted Harry after the kitten was found in a container full of oil in Watford Business Park in November.

Officers from the RSPCA had previously named him Gollum because of his “huge pitiful eyes” and scrawny look.

But Ms Cant, who is a senior photographer at the Watford Observer, said that three months on, “nothing can faze” the ginger-furred cat.

Holly said: “On the first day when I picked him up, he didn’t come out of his box, he did nothing.

“But on the second day, he was charging about, running around, hassling the dog and climbing curtains. He is very energetic and nothing seems to faze him.

“He is starting to show an interest in the outside world and the plan is to allow him out in the next few months.

“He seems very happy, and once he has tired himself out, he always comes for a cuddle.”
