An 11-year-old girl changing in a Mill End leisure centre has alerted police after noticing a mirror being placed under her changing room cubicle.

Hertfordshire Constabulary was called to William Penn Leisure Centre, in Shepherds Lane on Tuesday, January 13 after the girl noticed a mirror being placed under the cubicle she was changing in.

Officers said the incident happened between 6.45pm and 7.10pm.

PC Christian Gottman is investigating and said: "I would like to appeal to anyone else who was using the changing rooms that evening and saw anyone acting suspiciously or loitering around to contact me.

“I would also like to hear from anyone else who may have noticed something similar happen but haven't yet contacted police."

Paul Christie, regional manager at Hertsmere Leisure, said: "The incident was reported to staff on Tuesday, 13 January and then immediately reported it to the police.

"It is being investigated by Hertfordshire Police and we are working with them, providing every assistance.

"We are committed to working proactively with the police to ensure the safety and security of all our visitors.

"In light of this incident, the centre has increased staff patrols of the changing rooms and staff are being extra vigilant."
