The Bowls Club in Abbots Langley is set to stay after a decision has been made by the club to sign a new lease.

A unanimous decision was made last week for Abbots Langley Parish Council to seek possession of the Bowls Clubs in Langley Road, after the club failed to agree a new lease with the council. More than a year of negotiation had taken place with the council offering extended deadlines.

The club's lease ran out in May last year, but the council deferred the club's vacation of the green and premises until October 1 2014, in order not to disrupt current bowls fixtures.

This week, John Sutton, honorary secretary at the club told the Watford Observer that everything had been resolved and the club would be signing a new lease.

The club will now hold a general committee meeting with recommendation that the dilapidations proposal and all lease terms be accepted, and a Deed of Appointment drafted and agreed. Once these are approved, a parish council meeting will be called for February 9, and completion should follow as soon as possible.

County, district and parish councillor for Abbots Langley Sara Bedford said: "I'm delighted that the bowls club have responded positively to the parish council's actions.

"The parish council are continuing to maintain the bowling green, and if the bowls club are able to complete their proposed timetable and sign the lease next month, there will be plenty of time for preparations and practice before the new season in the spring.

"The council genuinely looks forward to bowls being played on the green well into the future."
