A teenager from Bushey Heath will be cycling from London Waterloo station to Waterloo in Belgium in order to raise money for charity.

Thomas Henderson, 17, of Robinson Crescent will be going to Northern Thailand to build two water tanks for Karen villages in the province of Chaing Mai in June, and is raising money to fund the trip and project.

The trip is part of Thomas's school service project run by the Pakanyor foundation. Thomas goes to an independent boarding school, Gordonstoun, in the North of Scotland.

The school has taken part in the project since it started in 1985, and every year, they send 20 students to take part in one of the water projects, which involves building water tanks and laying pipes to a source of clean drinking water.

In order to go on the trip, each student must raise £2,200, which funds their travel and the cost of the construction materials - parents are not allowed to pay the full amount.

In a bid to raise this money, Thomas, along with his dad, James, will be cycling to Belgium in three days, covering a distance of around 230 miles. Thomas's mum and sister will be following them as a support team. So far he has raised just over £1,200.

He said: "We plan to cycle the route in the first week of April, although this may change slightly. I am not a big cyclist and am nervous about how far it is and it will be a challenge, but I am physically fit and hope to complete this route, which shouldn't be too bad, within the three days."

Thomas added that his Dad, who is 43, is a keen cyclist and has done many long distance treks, including one from London to Scotland.

"To prepare for the cycling challenge I am currently doing hour long training sessions on the cycling machines and am planning to go out on weekends for even longer sessions."
