A Croxley Green dinner lady has been named as the top school chef in the East of England.
Wendy Kemp, of Malvern Way Infant and Nursery School served up a number of treats which impressed judges at the East of England School Chef of the Year 2015 awards in Stoke-on-Trent this morning.
Ms Kemp will now represent the Eastern region in the national finals in May.
Each competitor had to produce a healthy balanced two-course meal comprising of a main course and dessert that would appeal to eleven year olds in school in an hour and a half. Competitors were allowed to spend £1.60 on a single meal for one child.
Ms Kemp cooked “Burgers For All” as her main meal entry and “Carribean Sunburst” for her dessert.
On each Regional Final judging panel, there was a professional chef judge and two 11-year-old pupils from a local Stoke on Trent school and an education catering expert and a leading dietician.
