A Rickmansworth school is set to benefit from a cash boost after the Department for Education allocated nearly £25 million to help schools in Hertfordshire.

The Department for Education has this week allocated £24.8 million to help fund the maintenance and improvement of school buildings in the county.

The majority of this £18.7m has been allocated to Hertfordshire County Council but the remainder has been directly awarded to individual schools.

St Joan of Arc Catholic School, High Street, is set to receive a slice of the government cash after it emerged the Rickmansworth school was one of the six academies to directly apply for a slice of the cash.

Chris Hayward, Cabinet Member for Education, vowed that the funding will be used effectively to provide the best possible value.

He said: "This is very welcome news. It is vitally important that our teachers and pupils have good facilities in which they can thrive and build on the already excellent reputation of Hertfordshire’s schools."

The exact amount of these grants is yet to be decided and The Education Funding Agency will begin assessing the work required at the successful schools in April before confirming the final amounts.
