One of the most unusual kit issues to be made by the Army must surely have been that received by Sergeant Owen James Watkins, of the Military Police, whose home is in Scottswood Road, Bushey.

He was issued with a fur lined coat and Russian-styled cap to match.

Sgt Watkins is at present in Moscow as part of the Prime Minister’s entourage. He flew out with Mr Macmillan on Friday and is accompanying him on the whole tour.

Sgt Watkins, who is 26, spent his boyhood days in Bushey. He is a keen sportsman and played football for his school. He joined the Army at the age of 18 and signed on for 22 years.

Married with a son, Sgt Watkins fought in Korea and has served in Tripoli. His brother is also with the Military Police and is at present serving in Singapore.
