The annual pancake race came to Rickmansworth High Street today and 16 teams took part in the event, raising more than £2,000 for Watford Mencap in the process.

Teams of runners ran up and down Rickmansworth High Street flipping pancakes and Sewell and Gardener, estate agents in Rickmansworth High Street, won the final.

Michelle Hamilton, from the fund-raising team at Watford Mencap said: “It was a fantastic event.

“A few people dropped their pancakes, which was unfortunate and we had to encourage people to keep flipping them because they were just running along.

“People came in fancy dress and lots of local businesses took part.

“We had lots of onesies, we had someone dressed in a banana suit, wigs and bright outfits.

“It is a great community event. We have raised about two thousand pounds, which is amazing and I think it is the most we have raised for a long time so we are really pleased about that.”

The funds raised during the event will go towards supporting people with learning difficulties in Watford and Three Rivers.

Councillor Chris Lloyd, chairman of Three Rivers District Council, started all the races.
