The youth counselling charity Signpost, which serves Watford, Rickmansworth, Hemel Hempstead and Borehamwood, is back on a firm financial footing after sustaining two years of loss, according to its newly-published annual review.

Manager, William Allen said: "Following the credit crunch, we lost two thirds of our funding from public sources in 2011.

"We have worked hard to turn things around from being on the brink of closure. We are now more creative, dynamic and professional and are here to stay to support local young people in need."

Signpost supports hundreds of young people with counselling, coaching and support groups.

The issues they face range from family breakdown to depression and from self-harm to overcoming the effects of abuse.

William Allen added: "We are so grateful everyone who has rallied round. We have been sponsored by local organisations, such as The Watford Observer, Watford Rotary, Zizzis Restaurant, The Grove, The Cavendish School, Parmiter’s School and St Clement Danes School.

"We have also won the support of The Big Lottery, BBC Children in Need, Hertfordshire Community Foundation and many more. All proof that good causes survive hard times and we look forward to being even more active and visible in the local community in the years ahead."
