A councillor has stood down from his role with immediate effect.

Dan Griffin left his post as Conservative representative for Aldenham West on Hertsmere Borough Council on Friday.

He was first elected in 2007.

Hertsmere’s Chief Executive Donald Graham, who received Mr Griffin's letter of resignation on Thursday, said: "We thank Dan for his time as a local councillor and wish him well in the future."

In a statement, council leader Morris Bright said: "He (Dan Griffin) has chosen to step back from Hertsmere council now.

"As leader of the Conservative group and of the council, I have passed on much thanks to him for his eight years service and will be thanking him and all councillors standing down or not re-selected to stand (in May) at the April full council meeting."

The council have said a by-election for his seat will not take place so close to the next scheduled local election on May 7, when all Hertsmere councillors will be up for election.

Residents in Aldenham West, who wish to contact a local councillor should contact councillor Caroline Clapper instead. Details of all councillors are available on the Hertsmere website.
