The supply chain manager at Wickes' support centre in Watford has been recognised with an award for his extensive charity work.

Anil Pindoria, who has worked for Wickes for 13 years, has taken part in a wide range of challenging fundraising activities, including cycling across the Himalayas from Tibet to Kathmandu via Everest Base Camp, cycling from Blackpool to Paris and taking part in Ealing Half Marathon in support of Leukaemia & Lymphoma Research.

The 31-year-old, who lives in Wembley, was presented with the award by TV's George Clarke and Wickes' managing director Simon King at the Wickes' annual national awards.

This year Anil plans to swim from Alcatraz Island, home to the notorious prison which once housed gangster Al Capone, to San Francisco Bay to raise money for the charity.

He said: "I'm not really the athletic type and was seriously overweight before I did my first event in 2011, which is why I usually get a big reaction every time I do an event.

"The thing I am most proud of besides raising money is encouraging others to do things they wouldn’t usually do."
