Two cousins pushed family rivalry to the limit when they squared-up against each other as opposing mascots for Watford’s game against Norwich last week.
Life-long Hornets supporter and Cassiobury Junior School pupil, Reece Miles, eight, walked out with his hero Almen Abdi, while his older cousin and Canaries fan James Goodson, 12, accompanied Norwich goalkeeper John Ruddy onto the pitch.
The boys enjoyed a "good natured and friendly rivalry" through the game on Saturday which saw Norwich triumph three-nil at Vicarage Road.
James’ mum Penny, a Watford supporter who now lives in Norwich, said she had encouraged her son to support his local team.
She said: "The boys had a brilliant time. They got to meet the players, get their photos taken and autographs - it was a really fun day.
"My nephew Reece was delighted to walk out with his favourite player, and James plays in goal so he was very happy to accompany Ruddy.
"We had to wait for Norwich and Watford to be in the same league - Reece was given the experience for his birthday by my mother and when the teams drew each other we contacted Norwich to see if James could be an away mascot. The club was very accommodating."
Ten family members came to the game - but only three sat in the Hornets end.
Penny said the family tension looks set to continue with the two teams now play-off rivals.
