Police are warning residents to be alert after a further five attempted phone scams across South West Hertfordshire were reported.

All incidents have taken place since yesterday morning and today.

In each case, the fraudster(s) targeted elderly residents.

A woman in her early-80s from Bushey was contacted at around 11am on Tuesday, February 24, and a man in his mid-70s from Bushey was contacted at around 11.30am on the same day. Additionally, a woman in her mid-90s from Carpenders Park was also contacted between midday and 1pm on the same day.

Today, a woman in her mid-70s was contacted and another woman, also in her 70s, from Kings Langley was targeted.

In all cases, the fraudsters told their victims that they were calling from Wembley Police and that they had arrested someone with regards to fraud, and had found on their possession, clones of the victims bank cards.

The fraudsters then ask their victims for their banking details at which point they refused, ended the call and reported it to the police.

In total, there have been seven similar incidents reported to the police this month.

Hertfordshire Constabulary has issued the following advice to residents, the police or banks would never, ask for you bank account details on PIN number over the phone, ask you to withdraw money and send it to them via any means or your bank cards or personal property.

If anyone receives a suspicious phone call they should call the police on 101 and to remember to wait at least five minutes before attempting to make the call or use a different line.
