Two Croxley Green mums will be climbing the tallest free-standing mountain in the world later this year.

Clare Cobbold and Ginny Wrightson will be travelling to Tanzania in September to climb Mount Kilimanjaro, which stands at 5,895m tall.

The pair who met at Malvern Way Infant School, Malvern Way, hope to raise in excess of £5,000 for two charities.

Mrs Cobbold is hoping to raise at least £2,600 for Kidney Research UK while Mss Wrightson will be hoping to raise similar amounts for Action for Children, who are based near Watford Business Park.

Clare said: “We are now training hard and we have got a half marathon coming up in Reading in March.

“The trip in September is a ten day trip, which is the longest we have been away from the kids.”

“We are climbing Snowdon in June to prepare us for night climbing, but I am not sure anything is going to prepare us for the altitude.”

Wrightson said the two mums had been training in King George Playing Fields carrying weights in their back-packs and the pair have also completed a 5km obstacle race and a ten mile tabbing race as part of their preparations for the challenge.

She said: “We are doing this for two reasons. First it will be one of the hardest but we hope, also one of the most rewarding things we will ever do.

“Secondly, we want to raise much needed money for Kidney Research UK and Action for Children.”
