Keith Pritchett, the Watford footballer renowned for his skilful left foot, demonstrated this week that he has a talented right hand as well.
After winning the annual pancake race organised by the Watford Observer and Watford Chamber of Commerce, he denied strongly that recent training sessions had included pancake tossing.
“I have not practised at all,” he said as he crossed the finishing line, cheered on by hundreds of spectators and team-mates from the Watford first team.
But someone who did not see Keith’s winning performance was his wife, Barbara. She and their 18-month-old daughter Laura were too far back in the crowd to see. However, a running commentary by lofty Watford goalkeeper Steve Sherwood kept them informed of his progress.
Another Watford footballer, Roger Joslyn, was placed third. Between the two footballers, placed second in the final, was Gavin Miles, a trainee underbuyer from Clements.
