Former glam rock star Gary Glitter has been jailed for 16 years today for historical sex abuse against three young girls - including attacking one at a Watford nightclub.
Glitter, whose real name is Paul Gadd, appeared at Southwark Crown Court this morning to face a maximum of a life sentence after being found guilty of having sex with a 13-year-old girl.
He was convicted on February 5 of attempted rape, four counts of indecent assault and one of having sex with a girl under the age of 13, between 1975 and 1980.
The 70-year-old, who had denied all charges and was acquitted of three other counts, was remanded in custody until his sentencing today.
Gadd was convicted of indecently assaulting a girl aged 13, who had been invited to the singer's dressing room following one of his shows at Baileys in Watford, now known as Oceana.
The girl had been taken backstage to meet Gadd, an arrangement made by her mother's partner who worked in the music industry, where Gadd forcefully kissed the girl and slid his hand up her skirt, the court heard.
Gadd was the first person to be arrested under Operation Yewtree, a police investigation into sexual abuse allegations which was used to look into Jimmy Savile’s child sex abuse.
