Chorleywood Community Orchard is set to benefit from a £1,000 cash boost after a grant from Hertfordshire County Council.

A total of £1,041.77 has gone towards the orchard, Common Road, which is home to 140 fruit trees and this includes a mix of apples, plums and cherries.

All of the trees in the orchard were chosen because they are old Hertfordshire varieties or are known to thrive in the local area.

The cash will go towards the development of the orchard as a community venture and help purchase new equipment, a permanent record of the orchard and publicity materials.

Councillor Chris Hayward, representative for Chorleywood, said: “It is great to be able to support the Chorleywood Community Orchard project because it is an initiative in which all age groups can participate in an outdoor environment”.
