A newly founded Watford social enterprise has launched Warm In Winter to give blankets and hot drinks to older people in the town.

Small Acts of Kindness has asked elderly residents or anybody who knows an older person that would benefit from a pack containing a fleece blanket, socks, gloves, a hat, instant soup, coffee, tea, a mug and a spoon, to get in touch.

Founder Lynne Misner said she launched the project after her boiler broke down and she realised how miserable it was to live without heating.

Lynne said: "I was truly shocked at how cold and miserable it is living in a house with no warmth.

"Then I read in The Telegraph that an alarming percentage of older people are faced with the choice of either heating or eating as their income doesn't sufficiently enable them to do both all the time in the winter.

"In Age UK's advice to older people, the recommendation is to avoid getting too cold because this can lead to raised blood pressure which in turn can lead to strokes and heart attacks.

"So I decided to organise Warm In Winter - a project that will collate and deliver 50 keep warm packs free of charge to older people in Watford in the next couple of weeks."
