A Watford couple who found true love at Butlins in the 1950s are celebrating their diamond wedding anniversary this week.

Ted and Margaret Wigg, aged 82 and 83 of Briar Road, will be marking the big occasion tomorrow (Thursday, March 5) and will be continuing celebrations with their family this weekend with a meal at St James Restaurant in Bushey.

The couple met while they were each holidaying with friends at Butlins in Clacton-on Sea. Romance sparked between the two, and when Ted returned home to North London and Margaret returned to Watford, the couple decided to carry on their relationship, keeping in touch and meeting up on weekends.

"But soon after I first met him, Ted joined the army, and then went to Egypt," said Mrs Wigg.

"He was in the National Service for two years, but we kept in touch, and when he came back we got together again."

Ted and Margaret married in Watford in 1955 and then decided to move to North London, where they had their first son Roy, who was born in Hackney.

After six years, the couple moved back to Watford and they had their second son, Graham.

Mrs Wigg said: "60 years is a milestone, and not many people get this far so we are very lucky.

"We're still as lovely to each other as we've always been.

"The key to a long marriage is lots of sharing of everything."
