A Garston dad who has beaten cancer twice was the inspiration behind a charity music festival which raised more than £4,500 for treatment and research into the disease.

Tino Alcorano, 40, was about to celebrate his first Christmas with nine-month-old daughter Olivia when he found out his cancer had returned.

His fiancé, Jenny Morris, 36, said their lives were turned upside down.

She said: "It was a devastating time for us as a family. Hearing this news turned our lives upside down as this was our first Christmas together.

"Instead of celebrating what should have been a very special time for us my fiancé started his chemotherapy treatment on New Year’s Eve."

But a year later, Tino has been given the all-clear and he is currently preparing hard to run the London Marathon next month.

Jenny said: "At the time Professor Gordon Rustin the specialist treating him gave us hope with the promise to cure him, and in return he wanted Tino to run the London Marathon and raise money for Cancer Treatment and Research Trust based at Mount Vernon Hospital.

"For everyone that knows Tino, he is not the most athletic of people so this will be an extreme challenge. Tino plans to raise as much money as he can and run 26 miles in return."

Six DJs put on free performances for the couple’s latest fundraiser at Sun Postal Sports and Social Club on Friday.

The festival was enjoyed by more than 250 people, who were treated to a line-up of Matt Macdonald (Sounds of Eden), Lukey Sundance (Love 4 Garage/Ukg festival), Franky Mac, J Da Flex (Former Radio 1xtra dj), Dee Double E along with special guest appearance Brandon Block.

Football clubs and several businesses donated prizes for a raffle held on the night Jenny said: "We smashed it. We raised £3,230.00 with tickets and raffle on the night, along with Tino’s JustGiving page that has raised £1,292.00 so far - totalling a whooping £4,522.00.

"It’s absolutely fantastic news and couldn’t be more prouder. A massive thank you to everyone that helped us achieve this.

"Thank you to all the businesses who donated for being so generous and making our night a big success. And a very big thank you to our DJs on the night, they put on one hell of a performance, and the fact that it was such a huge success we have been asked to do another one in August."
