The great and the good of Hertsmere were commended at a special award ceremony on Saturday night as part of the council’s annual civic dinner.

There were nine award recipients on the night, who collected their awards from the mayor, councillor Carey Keates.

Seven volunteers from across Hertsmere collected a Civic Award for their outstanding contribution to the local community. The Dave Rankin Award for Community Safety and the Youth Civic Award were also presented on the night.

Guests on the night were also treated to performances from the North London Military Wives Choir, the Margaret Howard Theatre College and Tuxedo.

Mayor cllr Kates said: "It was a wonderful evening showcasing local talent and providing a fantastic opportunity to say thank you to a special group of people who do so much to benefit others in Hertsmere.

"I’d like to say again, thanks and well done to all of this year’s award winners. In their individual ways, each one has made a difference to the lives of others.

"I hope their example will inspire other volunteers to come forward and help make the borough an even safer, happier place to live and work."

The winners were:

Civic Award:

  • Kristan Payne - Chair of Borehamwood Foodbank
  • Christine Wright - District Commissioner of Watford South Scouts for her contribution to scouting in Bushey
  • Dr Phil Wadey - Rights of Way developer for his work improving the public rights of way and bridle paths in the borough
  • Dianne Payne - Bushey Museum researcher for her work on the exhibition Bushey and the Great War - A village remembers
  • Ann and Norman Shuker - for their community commitment, allowing their home (Schopwick Place in High Street, Elstree), which is of historical interest, to be used by many local groups and organisations
  • Vivienne Charrett - Chair of the Radlett Festival

Dave Rankin Award:

  • John Godfrey - Chair of the Potters Bar, Ridge, Shenley and South Mimms Community Safety Partnership for his commitment to community safety.

Youth Civic Award (Under 18):

  • Reece Browne MYP for his work with Herts UK Youth Parliament representing young people in Hertsmere, and Hertfordshire more widely.
