An annual house-to-house charity appeal will begin in Watford this weekend.

Volunteers from Garston-based international aid and relief charity ADRA-UK will be knocking on doors in Watford between Saturday, March 28, and Sunday, April 12.

Last year volunteers raised more than £531,388 in the national annual house-to-house appeal.

In addition to providing aid for international disaster relief - such as the recent cyclone in Vanuatu - the charity supports development projects in Africa and Asia.

Money raised from the 2015 appeal will help to fund new and ongoing projects in Burundi, Swaziland, Sri Lanka, Zimbabwe, Myanmar (Burma), Chad, Rwanda, Mongolia, Nepal and Somalia.

There are two featured projects which will benefit specifically from the appeal.

One is in Cameroon where the charity is controlling water-borne diseases in 10 high-risk communities through water and sanitation projects, benefiting over 30,000 people.

The other is in Laos where 1,500 women in 10 villages are being helped to learn to read and write and help is also being given to provide access to solar power.

Other fundraising activities include Pat's Sunday Sale at Stanborough Park Seventh-day Adventist Church in Garston, which will be held on Sunday, March 29, with all profits being donated to ADRA-UK.
