More than £2 million of funding for a mass regeneration project in South Oxhey is in place after a growth deal was signed this morning (Thursday).

A £221.5 million Growth Deal for Hertfordshire was signed by Lord Heseltine this morning and the South Oxhey Initiative is to receive a slice of the cash.

The money will be coming from the Evergreen Infrastructure Fund and the signing this morning means the money can be delivered to authorities leading projects across the county.

Councillor Matthew Bedford, lead member for resources at Three Rivers District Council said the money was "expected to be £2.3 million".

Hertfordshire Local Enterprise Partnership said The Growth Deal for Hertfordshire "will deliver thousands of new jobs, support business growth and improve the skills of its workforce".

The South Oxhey Initiative will see the estate’s town centre redeveloped and could provide almost 500 new homes, as well as a new retail centre and public spaces.

Councillor Bedford previously said the money would be delivered to the council in 2018.

He told the council’s website: "It is expected that £2.3m will be available to support the regeneration of South Oxhey's town centre, which seeks to provide about 500 new homes, a new retail centre and high quality public spaces.

"We expect these funds to be available to us in 2018 and the actual amount will depend on the financial outcome of the project"
