The Watford Labour Parliamentary candidate has signed a commitment to improve social care in the UK and put a time limit on detention for immigration purposes.

Matt Turmaine signed the Citizens UK Commitment for Future Government saying if elected he will push forward the agenda.

He said: "Citizens UK is calling for the government to bring dignity and civilised behaviour to two areas where what's currently happening is just not right.

"I fully support its efforts and if elected in May, will work with its local representatives and supporters to push forward this agenda."

Specifically, Matt would work to improve the quality of social care and bring dignity to care workers by training them to nationally-accredited and evidence-based standards and allowing care recipients to benefit from a small and consistent team of care workers.

He would also work to ensure at least 30 minutes for home care visits beyond basic checks and that care workers are paid at least the living wage, which would require minimum pricing standards in social care commissioning and sufficient funding in the system.

In addition, Matt would work to put a time limit on adult detention for immigration purposes and end the use of pain-based removal techniques in the immigration process.

He said he would meet again within a month of being elected to discuss how I can further these commitments.
