Spate of bicycle thefts


CYCLISTS have been warned to lock up their bikes after a spate of thefts in Watford.

The start of the warm weather has coincided with eight incidents reported across central and west Watford since Tuesday, March 6.

The most recent incident took place on Tuesday, between 6am and 10.30am, when two blue Silver Fox mountain bikes were stolen from a garden shed in Cassio Place.

On Monday, between 9am and 4pm, a chained-up black coloured mountain bike, worth £200, was stolen from a locked shed in Farthing Close.

And between Saturday and Monday, a grey and green, men's Saracen mountain bike and a black, men's mountain bike, both worth £280, were stolen from a shed in Radlett Road.

A blue, boy's mountain bike and a £200 blue, boy's BMX was stolen as well as power tools from Blackwell Road.

Between 4pm on Saturday and 10am on Sunday, a grey, men's mountain bike worth £300 was stolen from the communal area of some flats in Whippendell Road, despite being locked and secured.

A blue, ladies Hardrock bike worth £500 was stolen from a shed in Kingsfield Road.

A £400 silver, man's mountain bike and a red, man's bike worth £100 were stolen from an insecure shed in Liverpool Road, between 8.30pm on Thursday, March 8 and 7.30am on Saturday, March 10.

And on Tuesday, March 6, between 4.20pm and 4.25pm, a silver, man's mountain bike left insecure was stolen from Charter Place.

Police have advised cyclists to mark their bikes with their postcode, keep it locked and secured, use a solid steel D-shaped lock and secure any detachable wheels or accessories.

- The enquiry office at Watford Central Police Station, in Shady Lane, will be closed for refurbishment between Monday, April 2 and Friday, May 4.
