German Embassy honours Watford man

A FORMER Watford table tennis champion has been honoured for his services to British-German business relations.

Thomas Moriarty was presented with the Cross of the Order of Merit of The Federal Republic of Germany at the German Embassy earlier this month.

Two main areas of activity earned him this distinction: his special interest in Germany which included a four year stint living there and his work as CEO of a public relations and manufacturing technology marketing consultancy.

Having learnt to speak the language fluently after a four year stint working and living in Germany, Paul, on his return to the UK, helped start the German-British Chamber of Industry and Commerce in the UK.

This organisation promotes bi-lateral business relations for the general well- being of and understanding between the peoples of both countries.

Tom is the longest-serving member of the Governing Council of the Chamber, also chairing the Regional Chairman's and Membership Committee and Milton Keynes Regional Committee.

He also organises the Chamber's Annual Golf Tournament, which has been held at local golf clubs such as Berkhamsted, Ashridge, Moor Park, and which this year, being the 19th successive annual event, will take place at nearby Mentmore Golf and Country Club on June 22.

Thomas is also owner and CEO of Thomas Moriarty International Ltd., the public relations and he established in Fleet Street, London, in 1968, he has been successful for a about 40 years, in the aerospace, defence, space and engineering industries, promoting bi-lateral trade and business relations between the UK and European countries including Germany.

Mr Moriarty said: "What I can't get over is that I have received this award for something from which I have derived so much pleasure over the years in enjoying the company of so many very nice and able people from and in both countries. I could hardly call it work".
