The Abbots Langley Spring Show crowned St Paul’s Primary School, based in Langleybury Lane, the winner of this year’s brand new category.

At this year’s event, which took place on Saturday, March 28, the new category judged schools which took part on who had the best pot of daffodils, while society members put on their usual display of fruit, vegetables, flowers and cooking in a bid to win one of the other show prizes.

Seven other prizes were awarded on the day, including The Valerie Hankin Cup to Carol Gissing for her mixed vase of flowers, The Goggins Cup to Hazel Johnson for her knitted bowl of oranges and bananas and The Secretary’s Cup to Eve Durtnall for her raspberry jam.

Pam Cotton, society secretary, said: "Five of the local schools entered the exhibit and it was lovely to see how well they all had done.

"The bulbs and compost were donated by Burston Garden Centre to help encourage the local youngsters to get involved with village life and activities."

For the society’s Autumn Show pupils will again be able to take part and compete for the largest sunflower head.
