She was the lead singer of one of the most iconic Irish girlbands of the ‘90s, and now, after 18 years since their first single, Edele Lynch will be performing that very same song as a pirate.

The B*witched star will be headlining her first musical theatre performance in The Pirates of the Treasure Island and says she is “very excited about it”.

Based on Robert Louis Stevenson’s classic adventure novel Treasure Island, The Pirates of the Treasure Island is a fusion of pantomime and musical theatre telling the original tale of the pirates and their quest to find buried gold.

“I’ve never done anything like this before,“ Edele says “but I’m really looking forward to it.

The mother-of-three will be playing Captain Grace O’Malley and “luckily she’s an Irish pirate,“ Edele adds, “she’s based on a real pirate from the 1800s.

“I’m the naughty pirate and I try to cheat my way to the top.“ When asked about how she compares musical theatre to being a popstar, the Dublin-born singer says: “As I’m the bad pirate, they’ll all be booing at me and I’m not used to boos.”

The 35-year-old originally shot to fame in 1997. She set up a band, B*witched with her twin sister Keavy, and two other girls and their first four singles, including C’est la Vie and Rollercoaster reached Number One in the UK singles chart.

“To know that everyone knows and loves singing along to your song is an amazing feeling,“ says Edele, who won Celebrity Big Brother in Ireland in 2013.

Edele, who studied fitness and neuro-muscularology and became a personal trainer after B*witched spilt in 2002, added that the highlight of her career was the arena tour back in 1999.

“That was a pretty amazing goal hit. That was our first arena tour.“ Although Edele has done the Big Reunion with B*witched and a couple of smaller concerts recently, she says it is “pretty hard,“ to plan it.

“This year we have been talking about doing a lot of tours but we haven’t set anything in stone yet though. “It’s really hard to plan when you’re the mum.

“My eldest, Ceol is seven, and Harley is about to turn five and he’ll be starting school. It’s hard when they start school, you’ve got to be there for them. I like being hands-on with my kids. I couldn’t see myself travelling the world again, it just wouldn’t fit.“ l Watford Colosseum, Rickmansworth Road on Tuesday, April 7 and Wednesday, April 8.
