Benefit cheat Edward Putman has made an appeal after his plans to build a new motel on Green Belt land were rejected.

Mr Putman, who was jailed for nine months for claiming nearly £13,000 in benefits after winning £5 million on the lottery in 2009, submitted plans to build a 30-bedroom motel in Station Road, Kings Langley.

But the plans were rejected by Three Rivers District Council on the basis it would be harmful to the Green Belt.

The appeal will be decided on the basis of an exchange of written statements by the parties and a site visit by an Inspector.

Letters about the appeal have been sent to the occupiers of properties adjoining the site and those who responded to the original notification.
