The Watford Observer asked parliamentary candidates for Hertsmere, what they would do for the constituency if elected.

Here Richard Butler, Labour party candidate outlines why he should get your vote.

As a Hertsmere resident, Deputy Town Mayor, Councillor and local businessman I am passionate about community life. Politics needs to deliver for local people. Labour’s commitment to a One Nation Britain can do this.

Children are our future. I am proud that Labour’s education policy reinforces the role of schools at the heart of local communities, promoting good citizenship and decent values.

Labour will end rip-off energy bills. We will freeze prices until 2017 and get local people on the housing ladder by building appropriate homes for local families. We will get a fair deal for renters. I will help deliver increased security of tenure in the private rented sector.

People worry about the NHS. We will tackle waiting times. We need to end the A&E crisis and ensure GP appointments in Hertsmere are available when needed. We will build an NHS that brings together physical health, mental health and social care into a single patient-centered system.

Many parents are finding childcare so expensive that they can’t afford to return to work. Under the Tories, the cost of childcare has risen by 30 per cent. Labour will increase free childcare from 15 to 25 hours for working parents of 3-4 year olds. Primary schools in Hertsmere will provide childcare from 8am to 6pm each day.

I will promote a better, fairer, comprehensive public transport system for Hertsmere.

I will back entrepreneurs and small business. Local companies will benefit from a special investment bank and reduced business rates for small firms.
