A woman who spends her life extending the minds of convicted criminals has been recognised for her efforts.
Wendy Sherlock of Stratford Road, Watford was decorated by the Lord-Lieutenant of Hertfordshire, the Countess of Verulam, with the award of the British Empire Medal at an Investiture Ceremony at County Hall on Monday.
Mrs Sherlock received the award for her work as a further education teacher at the Mount Prison in Bovingdon. It is understood that she was nominated for the award by one of the prisoners she mentors at The Mount.
Among those in attendance to congratulate Mrs Sherlock and witness her receiving her award was the chairman of Watford Borough Council, George Derbyshire.
The British Empire Medal was reintroduced in 2012 after a gap of almost 20 years and it is awarded in recognition of dedication and hard work in the community.
