More than 40 people took part in a charity swimathon at Bushey Grove Leisure Centre on Saturday.

Participants swam either 60, 100 or 200 lengths (the equivalent to 5km) either as individuals or as part of a team.

Eight-year-old Benjamin Taggart, who takes lessons at the centre, swam 100 lengths in one hour 12 minutes.

Swimming instructor Tom Hammond and four of his pupils aged between eight and ten, swan 200 lengths between them all.

Jo Lambert, swimathon organiser, said: "It was such a fantastic atmosphere here on Saturday night for the Swimathon.

"We are delighted with the number of people who took part and the personal achievements of some of our young swimmers are to be praised. Not only did participants raise money for charity but they had a fantastic time and a huge sense of achievement."

The total amount raised by the swimathon in aid of Marie Curie is not yet known but the centre predicts it will be hundreds of pounds.
