Watford’s Mayor has admitted defeat in her quest to screen the Hornets’ Championship title decider in the town centre on Saturday.

Dorothy Thornhill told the WO on Monday that she would be ‘doing all she could’ to enable Watford’s clash with Sheffield Wednesday to the streamed in The Parade.

Sky Sports announced earlier today that it had not picked the Golden Boys’ game for live coverage, seemingly dashing the mayor’s plans.

She tweeted: “Bad news about showing the game live on Saturday - Sky not broadcasting it, so can't be streamed live at the pond [sic]”.

Watford will be crowned champions if they beat The Owls or they avoid defeat and Bournemouth fail to win at Charlton.

The Golden Boys can also finish top of the league even if they were to lose on Saturday, providing The Cherries are beaten at The Valley.

But fans will be able to celebrate the club’s promotion to the Premier League during a party in Cassiobury Park on Bank Holiday Monday.

Players and staff will board an open-top bus at ASDA in St Albans Road before travelling through the town and on to the park.

The Golden Boys stars will then join Vibe FM on stage at about 3pm.

Three big screens will be set up in front of the stage, where there will be live musical performances – including a Sir Elton John tribute act.

There will also be catering stalls, bouncy slides, refreshments and children's entertainment throughout the afternoon.

On Monday, there will no parking in Cassiobury Park car park, Gade Avenue, Cassiobury Park Avenue, Shepherds Road, Gade Avenue and Swiss Avenue, Watford Borough Council has said.
