An inspirational teacher has been shortlisted for a prestigious teaching award.

Drew Thomson, head of science at Rickmansworth School, Scots Hill, beat thousands of entries and was shortlisted for the Best Science Teacher at the Pearson Teaching Awards.

67 Nominees will find out if they will go forward to one of the 13 award finals on Friday June 12 and finalists will be invited to a special ceremony at the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden in October.

Mr Thomson was nominated by parents and students at the Rickmansworth school.

Keith Douglas, Headteacher at Rickmansworth School said: "I am delighted Drew Thomson’s nomination has been successful. His leadership of the Science Faculty is exceptional and this is reflected not only in the student’s success, participation and enjoyment of Science, but also in the large number who pursue Science degrees at university.

"Drew sees education as a whole life experience for the child and organises activities locally, nationally and Outlook visits internationally.

"Drew deserves to go through all the way to be a national finalist for best teacher. I wish him every success and thank him for his valuable contribution to Rickmansworth School and to the teaching profession.”
