Members of Watford and Three Rivers Community Learning Disability Team discovered more about the local history of people with a learning disability this week after they were given a talk on Leavesden Asylum.

Chairman of the Leavesden Hospital History Association, Martin Brooks, gave the presentation to the team on Wednesday, April 29, which included a talk on the site’s history and photographs and documents related to Leavesden Asylum.

Mr Brooks has been giving Leavesden Hospital walks and talks for some time now, but team manager for Watford and Three Rivers Community Learning Disability Team, Tim Brooks, said the talk was beneficial to them because it enabled the team to think about how people had been supported in the past and how they could be supported in the future.

He said: "We want to promote and value the history of the people we work with and also look to the future and support them to be fully part of society and their local communities.

"Some of our team worked and trained at Leavesden when it was a hospital and the talk has brought back many memories for them "I think for newer social workers and nurses it’s about learning what’s happened before."
