A group of Brownies in Mill End had a taste of the General Election buzz as they learnt about voting, politics and Parliament.

26 seven, eight and nine year-olds in 8th Rickmansworth Brownies, have learnt about how voting works, parliament, the role of MPs and the history of politics as they worked towards their politics badge.

The group meets every friday at St Peter's Church of England Voluntary Aided Primary School, Church Lane.

Having learnt about the UK system, the girls will be dressing up as suffragettes for this year’s parade which will signify the start of Ricky Week.

Hazel Carmichael, brownie guider, said: “‘We concluded our activities alongside the General Election with a vote of our own, complete with ballot papers and a ballot box. Each Brownie Six chose their own speaker on the topic of ‘What Brownie game shall we play?

“Having made speeches, filled in their ballot papers and counted the votes, the Brownies celebrated by playing the game with the most votes.

“They were also thrilled to have a visit from Chris Lloyd who talked about his role as chairman of Three Rivers District Council and patiently answered lots of questions.

"They absolutely loved it. They were saying it was great to learn something new and they really enjoyed it.”
