A group of 15 men have lost a total of 192lbs between then as part of Watford FC Trust Shape Up campaign.

The slimmers burned off more calories than contained in 3361 donuts after completing 12 weekly sessions to learn about nutrition, lifestyle and behaviour change, followed by a 60-minute exercise session, and lost 106kg of body fat.

The free Shape Up weight management course for men aged 18 to 50 with BMI over 28 was funded by Public Health Herts and delivered by Watford FC’s Community Sports and Education Trust.

Adam Townsend, 34, said: "Great that there was something for men, I didn't realise how unfit I was and now finished at week 12 I'm running 5km most mornings and losing the weight I always I wanted.

"Food diary and correct food intake explained very well.

Tariq Hasan, 42, said: "Before this course, I was overweight and under motivated. Meal portions were large and the list of snacks was long and illustrious.

"I have now reduced my portions, cut right down on the snacks, and try to get in some physical activity during the week. I’ve even cut out sugar from my tea and coffee.

"I am now sleeping better and not snoring as much - according to my wife. I’m less tired, even using a new hole on my belt.

"I feel fitter and not getting out of breath so quickly. I could list all the benefits, but trust me, there are plenty."

Rob Lewis, 46, added: "I can’t recommend this course highly enough. Do it. Take 90 minutes out of your weekly routine, change your life. Take small steps but you will reap the benefits. I have."

New courses start from Monday, May 11, in Watford, Hemel Hempstead and Borehamwood.
