A free music project is launching for young people in Abbots Langley.

Supported by Youth Connexions, the Music Box is giving young people aged 14-19 the opportunity to work with a professional musician for eight weeks, where they can try their hand at song writing, music production, DJing and mixing - with all of the equipment provided free as part of the sessions.

The main focus of the project is to work towards organising a live music event for other young people in the area.

They will decide on the music content produced by themselves, as well as playing an active role in setting up promoting and running their own event.

Elaine Johnson, community arts development officer, said: "This is a great way for young people who love music to get their foot in the door, working with an experienced musician and having a clear vision to work towards.

"Having sessions outside of school and college hours will also make it very accessible."

The Music Box will form the final instalment of Three Rivers District Council’s Youth Arts programme funded by the Royal Opera House Bridge, with highly popular film and mixed arts projects having already taken place in South Oxhey and Rickmansworth.

The project will run every Thursday from June 11 to July 30, between 6pm and 8pm, at Abbots Langley Community Centre in the High Street.
