Children at a Rickmansworth school witnessed an “inspirational” visit from a Paralympic athlete today.

Kate Grey, who lost her left hand after an accident when she was just two years old, visited St Mary’s Church of England Primary School in Stockers Farm Road this morning.

School leaders organised the visit with Team Superschools, who arrange athlete visits in schools.

These athletes then lead sponsored exercises with children throughout the day and the Paralympic swimmer spent the morning with pupils at the Rickmansworth primary school.

Aaron Wanford, headteacher at the school, said: “It was fantastic. The assembly Kate Grey did was inspirational.

“When the kids were doing the exercise, the children were buzzing and enjoyed themselves.

“We are trying to improve our provision in sport and PE.”

Mr Wanford added the school would be investing the money raised by pupils in sporting equipment, including tennis racquets, footballs and goalposts.
