Police investigating the assault on Watford fan Nic Cruwys are continuing to appeal for a man featured in a CCTV image after someone came forward earlier this week.

The image was released on Monday and officers believed they had a strong lead when a man called in to identify himself.

After further work was carried out, it transpired that this man was being sought with an unrelated football disorder investigation.

Mr Cruwys, 44, was left with potentially life changing injuries following the attack on March 7.

He is currently awaiting a placement at a specialist rehabilitation unit.

Detectives investigating the attack believe the suspect may well be from Telford and have widened their search area to try and locate the man.

Nic's condition has slowly improved but this family say he faces a long road to recovery and could be left with a lasting brain injury.

Twelve teenagers, men and boys from the West Midlands have already been arrested over the assault and are currently on bail while inquiries continue - the latest arrest came on May 10 when a 16-year-old from Sedgley was detained on suspicion of violent disorder.

The teen was later bailed pending further enquiries.

Anyone who knows the identity of the man in the CCTV image are asked to contact police on 101 or the Crimestoppers charity on 0800 555 111.
