A charity football match between parents from Bushey and Oxhey FC and Garston Ladies captained by legends Luther Blissett and ex-England and Arsenal player Paul Merson has raised more than £5,000.

The match, at Vicarage Road last week, also included world cup winners Ossie Ardiles and Ricky Villa, as well as Micky Hazard, Glen Little and Nicky Shorey.

The event raised fund for children's charities Dreamflight and Action for Kids, £3,300 has already been collected with an additional £2,000 pledged.

Paul Merson and Luther Blissett's team won the game 6-4 with Bushey and Oxhey dad Paul Murphy scoring an incredible hat trick before being booked for removing his shirt.

Before the game both teams formed a guard of honour for one of Garston Ladies Under 9 teams who have just gone through an entire season unbeaten.

At half time the celebrities presented medals to all the children in a penalty shootout before posing for photos and signing autographs will all the spectators.

Organiser Andy Hemington thanked Watford FC for their hospitality. He said: "Everything about the day was perfect, from the incredible new home team dressing rooms, the condition of the pitch, the fantastic new Elton John Stand and playing alongside some fantastic players."
