Staff and service users of Watford homelessness charity New Hope are set to complete the Yorkshire Three Peaks Challenge at the end of the month.

The group, along with guides from Northwood Headquarters military base, have to climb the Pen-y-Ghent, Whernside and Ingleborough peaks within 12 hours to meet the challenge.

The total walking distance is almost 25 miles, which is a significant number for the charity which has been running for 25 years, and will involve the walkers climbing a total of nearly 1,700 metres.

Most of the equipment needed for the walk has been sourced from New Hope’s charity shops including walking boots, socks and rainproof clothing.

Matthew Heasman, New Hope’s chief executive, said: "This challenge is going to be tough but we will be doing it together which will make things easier.

"It is great that we have had service users get involved and we are really grateful to Northwood Headquarters for agreeing to lead the way."

The group will leave Watford on Friday, May 29, and will start the walk at 6am on Saturday morning. To sponsor them, visit www.newhope.org.uk.
