This year's Kings Langley Carnival will be opened by a group of 15th century longbowmen - but visitors are assured they will be perfectly safe.

The Company of 1415 will be providing demonstrations with men-at-arms fighting in replica armour, and archers losing their arrows, as they did at the Battle of Agincourt 600 years ago when the carnival opening at midday on Saturday, June 20.

A Living History display will also take place with authentic medieval cooking, chain mail making, loom weaving and various other trades.

Carol Chandler, of the carnival committee, said: "It will be great fun all day long and the younger folk can even try on some of the armour."

On stage, there will be Vivo D'arte, Kings Langley Community Choir, the senior school jazz band, Kings Langley Brownies and the primary school choir and orchestra.

Ms Chandler added: "We are also delighted to welcome our good friends from Phasels Wood Scout Camp with a climbing wall, human buzz wire, skittle alley and garden games.

"We are particularly grateful to our sponsors A & C Tadman Limited, Councillor Richard Roberts, the National Federation of Demolition Contractors and Wilden Services, and so many wonderful local businesses and local organisations who have supported us through buying advertising space, donating raffle prizes, offering their time or hosting stalls and providing an opportunity to find out more about what's happening on your doorstep."
