Organisers of the Croxley Revels are calling for more volunteers to help with the running of the event as funding cuts bite.

This year’s annual village fayre is being held on The Green on Saturday, June 20 and senior organisers are saying they need an extra six volunteers to help with the Revels Procession.

Last year’s event kicked off with a procession which travelled around the green.

There were dozens of participants with a mixture of floats and walkers completing a circuit of the green, with the British Red Cross and the St John Ambulance collecting donations on the day.

This year's procession will start in The Green, before heading down New Road, Barton Way, Sherbourne Way and Baldwins Lane.

Barry Grant, chairman of Croxley Green Residents Association, said: “I have been involved in this for 26 years and it has gone from being something that a couple of people do for a bit of fun to a big 21st century event.

“People don’t seem to get as involved as much in community stuff and we have seen lots of cuts to public spending.

“If you take the police for example. They are spread more thinly than ever and if there is an accident somewhere, we can never be sure what we will get, so we are reliant on local volunteers to assist.

"Croxley Green seems to have a lot of former Met Police Officers and I thought we could try and utilise their experience, particularly with closing roads off which happens during the event."

Organisers believe there could be as many as 10,000 people attending this year's event.

The event was first held in 1938.
